Welcome to Melbourne Gastrointestinal Group
Melbourne Gastrointestinal Group (MGIG) is a specialist gastroenterological and surgical practice that aims to provide the best possible care for patients with gut, liver and surgical problems.The practice was established in 2004 and is located within Warringal Medical Centre, Heidelberg.
At Melbourne Gastrointestinal Group we offer specialist expertise and care for the full range of medical and surgical gastrointestinal problems. Our specialists all have many years of clinical experience and are at the forefront of medical practice in their specialties. In addition to practising at Melbourne Gastrointestinal group, all the specialists also work at Warringal Medical Centre and The Austin Hospital.
The physicians, A/Prof Paul Gow and Dr Georgina Paizis both manage all aspects of luminal gastroenterology and hepatology. Both physicians offer the complete range of standard and specialised endoscopic investigations and treatments.
The surgeons Mr Michael Fink and Prof Robert Jones are both specialist liver, gallbladder, bile duct and pancreas surgeons.
The practice also has the services of two specialist gastrointestinal dieticians who help manage patients with nutrition associated health problems.
We are open during the COVID 19 pandemic
MBS telehealth and telephone items have been introduced to support the response to Coronavirus (COVID-19). In accordance with Medicare guidelines we are offering telehealth appointments where possible. Our regular fees will apply to telehealth appointments. Please view the consumer fact sheets which are updated regularly.
From 13 March 2020 to 30 September 2020 (inclusive), new temporary MBS telehealth items have been made available to help reduce the risk of community transmission of COVID-19 and provide protection for patients and health care providers.
A service may only be provided by telehealth where it is safe and clinically appropriate to do so.
Some consultations cannot be conducted via telehealth. Each booking will be reviewed and our receptionists will advise you if your doctor wants to see you face to face.
Please do not attend your appointment If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 (including cough, temperature, shortness of breath) or have been diagnosed with or in recent contact (14 days) with a confirmed case of COVID-19.
We ask that you bring no more than 1 family member with you to your appointment and we also request you make payment via EFTPOS rather than cash.
